La scorsa edizione del Congresso si è tenuta a Londra, con due giornate al Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre (QEIICC) e la terza allo stadio di Wembley.
Il Congresso del 2014 è stato invece organizzato a Milano, presso il MiCo – Milano Congressi con titolo Football Medicine Strategies for Joint & Ligament Injuries. La Conferenza è stata organizzata su tre giornate, nelle quali sono state affrontate tematiche legate alla prevenzione, chirurgia, riabilitazione e ritorno in campo del calciatore.
Le lesioni alle articolazioni e ai legamenti sono infortuni ricorrenti durante l’attività sportiva, con un’incidenza particolarmente elevata nel calcio.
Il programma del Congresso è stato pensato per fornire una visione completa del processo di recupero dell’atleta: dall’infortunio al ritorno allo sport. L’attenzione della Football Medicine Community si è rivolta in modo particolare alla parte conclusiva del processo ovvero alla fase in cui il recupero è completo.
ll Second Science of Football Summit del lunedì, intitolato Preventing Injuries in Football: 1994-2014, 20 years of research ha costituito la terza e ultima giornata di questo incontro annuale e si è rivolto a quanti si occupano di prevenzione degli infortuni (in particolare ai medici dello sport, agli allenatori, ai preparatori fisici e ai laureati in Scienze Motorie e in Fisioterapia, nonché agli studenti) e che sono quotidianamente impegnati sui campi di allenamento e di gara. In questa occasione sono state presentate le più importanti iniziative messe in atto e coordinate da FIFA-Medical Assessment and Research Centre (F-MARC) in tema di prevenzione, celebrando così anche i suoi 20 anni di attività.
Anche quest’anno la platea ha potuto assistere all’ampio dibattito tra i diversi professionisti del settore come i medici dello sport, i chirurghi ortopedici, i fisiatri, i radiologi, i fisioterapisti, i medici di squadra e i preparatori atletici.
