On Thursday 18th February, Isokinetic and Our Game hosted a webinar focused on the prevention of hamstring, ACL and knee injuries. With the lockdown continuing, and semi-professional and amateur sport suspended, many recreational athletes are looking for support to maintain their strength, co-ordination and fitness levels.
The talks, given by Dr Daniel Broman (Sport and Exercise Medicine Consultant) and Filippo Picinini (Head of End Stage Rehabilitation) were a mix of research evidence, clinical experience and practical help. Injury risk during this lockdown period is elevated and the main injury risk mitigation strategies to minimise the chances of suffering high injury burden problems such as ACL rupture, Achilles Tendon rupture or Hamstring tear, are functional based testing and a combination of therapeutic and strengthening exercises. Both speakers spoke about the value of undertaking the Isokinetic Strength test, Threshold Fitness test and the Movement Analysis Test. In addition Filippo spoke about the way to monitor and manage load in the On Field Phase of Rehabilitation utilising the GPS technology that Isokinetic uses (only clinic in London to offer this service).
The webinar was attended by 65 medical professionals, coaches and players.
