An exclusive methodology developed over 30 years of research and experience with the rehabilitation of competitive athletes is now available to everyone, with personalised and cutting-edge recovery protocols.
The rehabilitation from trauma and sports injuries in the world of elite sport demands timely intervention, speed in the management of pain and acute symptoms, and the achievement of maximum functional recovery in the shortest time.
Since the opening of our first sports rehabilitation clinic in 1987, Isokinetic has pioneered the rehabilitation for competitive athletes through a personalised approach and highly specialised clinical activities. All patients are accompained through the rehabilitation process by a large staff of professionals such as rehab specialists, sports physicians, physiotherapists, hydrotherapists and osteopaths in order to guarantee a rapid and lasting recovery. We want to ensure that athletes of any level are able to continue to play and compete and are not forced into long absences from competition and ordinary training sessions with teams or as an individual.
The Isokinetic Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation centres provide the expertise and experience gained through the rehabilitation of competitive athletes, for the well-being of all. The care, attention, staff and professionalism dedicated to professional athletes and to some of the biggest names in international sport are the same as those we offer to all Isokinetic patients, due to personalised treatment approach and a constant presence of doctors before and throughout the recovery process.
The advantages of a rehabilitation journey in Isokinetic:
Method created to meet the needs of competition: maximum functional recovery in the shortest time.
Creation of completely customised treatment pathways.
Constant presence of the “case manager“, a dedicated doctor who takes care of the patients, draws up the personalised rehabilitation protocol and supports them throughout the entire rehabilitation process, guaranteeing continuous clinical support (frequent check-ups and specific tests to quantify and benchmark progress) and focus on the patient’s needs.
The rehabilitation session in Isokinetic is a customised mix of your specific needs for physical therapies (therapeutic exercise that can be delivered in the hydrotherapy pool and rehabilitation gym, alongside neuromotor training in green room and functional re-conditioning and field rehabilitation), manual therapies (myofascial massages, reflexology massage, trigger point treatment, deep transversal massage and joint mobilisations) and technology based interventions (tens, laser therapy, hyperthermia, cryotherapy, electrostimulation etc.) all included in your session.
No waiting lists: immediate availability for specialist consultation and rehabilitation sessions in all of our rehabilitation clinics.
Average length of sessions is 1.5-2.0 hrs (+50/70% compared to the average of rehabilitation clinics).
Our method is based upon physical exercise as the best medicine. We do not believe that technology based therapies, as well as manual ones, will solve your problem by themselves. But we know that, especially at the beginning of your journey, they may be functional to put you in a position to practice the exercise.
Contacts with the leading orthopaedic surgeons and surgeons both locally, nationally and internationally – to guarantee a rapid and complete communication of the clinical status of patients, and have fast track access for second opinions.
The Isokinetic clinics are characterised by different facilities: the gym, the hydrotherapy pool, the green room and the sports field. This particular approach characterises the Isokinetic clinics and distinguishes them from all other existing rehabilitation or physiotherapy clinics. In each of these environments a fundamental part of the rehabilitation program is carried out which, is based upon exercise.
The individually tailored rehabilitation sessions will be in a group setting, where there is interaction with other patients suffering similar injuries. The warmth and sociability that is felt in Isokinetic environments is the collection of the human relationships that are created between patients and rehabilitation staff: the positive atmosphere and continuous discussions will be important stimuli for a complete recovery.
Your recovery will take place in four distinct places:
The indoor pool offers hydrotherapy and aquatic therapy, where the buoyancy of warm water helps support body weight, taking pressure off joints and relaxing muscles.
The rehabilitation gym will be introduced when you have reduced pain and inflammation. Specialists will guide you through the Isokinetic recovery pathway, so you can regain strength, endurance and co-ordination.
The Green Room, is where you will practice neuromotor exercises, gain awareness of the way you move, correct bad movement habits and work on the prevention of re-injury.
The field, is where you will regain confidence to move freely, in an environment that is protected and under the supervision of our on-field rehabilitation specialist. You will increase the load and intensity of your workouts, begin to make sport specific movements and regain the joy of feeling pain-free.
Our front office staff will assist you with administration issues, including dealing with your insurance provider to maximise the benefit of your policy.
You’ll always find someone at Isokinetic to help smooth your recovery journey.
In Isokinetic clinics our injury prevention methodology is based on the MAT Test (Movement Analysis Test) to gather information on a patient’s motor patterns: a technologically advanced test performed in the Green Room for neuromotor training, the only one in Europe available to patients. This is another example where there a clear difference between Isokinetic and a physiotherapy clinic.
– professional and competitive athletes
– amateur sportsmen and women of all ages and disciplines
– patients who would like to avoid surgery
– patients who have recently undergone an orthopaedic surgery
– patients who have incurred in traffic, domestic or work accidents
– patients with chronic diseases and pains (flat feet, arthrosis, osteoporosis, scoliosis)
– people of all ages: from the elderly to children and adolescents
The most common question our patients ask us is:
“How long will it take for my injured shoulder or knee to recover?"
Duration and type of the rehabilitation process are factors that vary depending on the person themselves and the injury suffered and can be determined only by an in-depth diagnostic visit with a specialist doctor.
But perhaps the most correct question to ask is “how much shoulder or knee mobility will I recover"? And will my results last over time?
The maximum functional recovery in the shortest time and a consolidated and lasting rehabilitation have always been the main target of the Isokinetic method, for amateur athletes and sportspeople, as for any other patient who chooses to carry out a physiotherapy recovery in one of our clinics.
With the experience of 12,000 patients and over 250,000 rehabilitation sessions per year, we were the first to develop the 5-step rehabilitation method (link to the “rehabilitation phases" page), which includes fundamental stages of the care pathway, from the resolution of acute symptoms (pain, swelling, etc.) until complete recovery of movement and function.
A method of 5 steps does not mean standardisation and the same care for everyone: rather completely customised journeys providing a “tailored” combination of manual, technology based treatments and medical therapies for the physical, biomechanical and psychological needs of the patient.
Therapies aimed at reducing or eliminating pain, swelling and other acute symptoms related to the injury/accident.
The immediate goal is to start moving again without pain through simple exercises in the gym, hydrotherapy into the pool, physical and manual therapies. Osteopaths will also treat you as needed.
Recover natural movements of the body parts affected by the injury or accident; recovery of strength and control in movement through joint mobilisation, stretching, exercises in the gym and hydrotherapy sessions in the pool.
Recover the strength of muscles, for a more correct and controlled mobility: rehabilitating the force protects tendons, muscles and joints from imbalances and excessive loads.
Muscle recovery is achieved through strength. Strengthening exercises and muscle strengthening according to the rule of load progression to avoid overloading. A lot of work will also be done on fatigue resistance (aerobic capacity). The ability to quantitatively measure the work produced through tests is fundamental: the isokinetic test and the functional evaluation test (threshold).
Improve motor coordination, balance and movement control not only for injury recovery but also to learn to move correctly with specific exercises, avoiding previous compensations and injuries.
Rediscover the ability, confidence and joy of moving. Return to an active life and practice sports without limitations or under the temporary supervision of the doctor thanks to the completion of the rehabilitation program in the field and in Green Room.
The Isokinetic method is not only rehabilitation and recovery but also:
– Prevention of re-injury
– Correction of postural errors to improve the performance in sport and general well-being
– Proper movement re-education
With the help of the state of art technology and tests used to optimise the performance of elite sports professionals, we study how the patient moves, identify and correct improper movement and posture that risk generating wear & tear or trauma.
Rediscover the ability, confidence and joy of moving. Return to an active life and practice sports without limitations or under the temporary supervision of the doctor thanks to the completion of the rehabilitation program in the field and in Green Room
With the MAT a biomechanical analysis is performed on 6 movements (specific to the sport or daily activity of the patient): through an analysis system that uses high-speed cameras, a force platform (with 3D feedback) and a software dedicated, dangerous or dysfunctional gestures can be identified and improved with a neuromotor training activity.
After the corrective activity in the Green Room, the MAT is repeated to verify the results obtained.
High-profile clinical tests and technology based treatment developed exclusively to the recovery of elite sports professionals, are an integral part of each patient’s care pathway in Isokinetic rehabilitation clinics.
The Isokinetic methodology uses technological innovations, developed for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of competitive athletes and makes them available to all patients.
In Isokinetic clinics, you can undertake:
MAT TEST (Movement Analysis Test) test for the identification of incorrect or potentially high risk movement patterns.
NEUROMOTOR TRAINING for the correction of incorrect posture and movements, inside the only Green Room in Europe.
ISOKINETIC TEST to check the rehabilitation progress and the recovery of strength in the lower and upper limbs: the isokinetic machine compares the performance of the limb being treated with those of the healthy limb at different angular speeds.
THRESHOLD TEST to establish the aerobic and anaerobic capacity (fitness) of the patient under stress and to calibrate a training appropriate to physical and objective conditions: a series of capillary micro-blood samples reveals the individual metabolic characteristics through the relationship between heart rate and acid concentration lactic.
